LSI Logic Announces USB 2.0 Enabled Single-Chip Communication I/O Solution For Advanced Peripherals
- Integration of USB 2.0 Increases Data Throughput Up to 40 Times Over USB 1.1 - L1501 Delivers Most Comprehensive Set of Standard Communication I/Os On a Single-Chip
MILPITAS, Calif., June 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Focusing on the demand
for reliable, high-bandwidth connections for networked peripherals, LSI Logic
Corporation (NYSE: LSI - News) today introduced its ComCentrix(TM) L1501 standard
product. The L1501 peripheral I/O solution integrates Universal Serial Bus
(USB) 2.0 functionality and the USB 2.0 Transceiver Macrocell Interface (UTMI)
with a comprehensive set of standard I/Os. The implementation of the USB 2.0
allows the L1501 to process data at rates of up to 480 megabits per second
(Mb/s). This single-chip solution replaces four separate devices thereby
lowering component cost by 30% and significantly reducing system development
time.
"The ComCentrix L1501 is an off-the-shelf peripheral I/O solution that
allows our customers to reduce product costs while maintaining exceptional
performance," said Ahmad Khanssari, director of networking product marketing
for LSI Logic. "High speed USB 2.0 opens the door to new levels of
innovation. Our expertise in System-on-a-Chip (SoC) design enables us to
offer a solution that meets both the performance and sensitive cost
requirements of the multi-I/O market."
In addition to USB 2.0, the L1501 provides a comprehensive set of I/O
standards in a single chip such as an Ethernet 10/100, IEEE 1284 parallel port
and IRDA port for evolving wireless handheld Internet appliances. For added
flexibility, the ComCentrix device uses the industry standard 32-bit, 33 MHz
PCI bus to interface with the embedded system controller.
The L1501 offers the following features and benefits:
-- 10 / 100 Ethernet MAC with DMA controller for network connectivity
-- USB 2.0 compliant device controller with integrated DMA controller
supports low and full speed connectivity along with FIFOs for nine
active USB endpoints
-- IEEE 1284 parallel port with integrated DMA controller and transmit and
receive FIFOs
-- IRDA port with integrated DMA for point-to-point connectivity of
Internet and wireless appliances
-- Two UARTs and two independent and programmable timers
-- Nine general purpose I/Os can be programmed individually as input or
output port
-- 32-bit, 33MHz PCI bus to interface with the embedded controller
As part of the ComCentrix product offering, LSI Logic provides its
customers with a comprehensive development system to accelerate design and
product development including a ComCentrix PCI card. I/O drivers for
ComCentrix running under Linux OS will be available in Q3 2002 to facilitate
product evaluation. For more information contact: printing-division@lsil.com
